Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana – Complete Details its Benefits, Eligibility & How to Apply
This scheme was launched by the prime minister Narendra Modi in January 21st 2015 under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. Main moto if the scheme is to provide or meet expense required to educate the girl child for higher education or marriage.
Eligibility
- Only a girl child can be enrolled.
- Child should be citizen of India even an NRI child can also be enrolled in this scheme.
- Girl child age should not be more than 10 years.
Investment in this scheme can be made by the parent or legal guardian of the girl child
Number of accounts
Up to two girl children or three in case of twin girls as second birth or the first birth itself results in three girl children account can be opened.
Amount to be Deposit
Min.1000 of initial deposit with multiple of one hundred rupees thereafter with maximum of Rs.150000 in a financial year
Tenure of the Deposit
21 years from the date of opening of the account
Maximum period upto which deposits can be made
14 years from the date of opening of the account.
Interest provided on investment
Currently 9.10%

As per 80 CC you can save your tax
Premature Closure
Allowed in the event of death of the depositor or in cases of extreme compassionate grounds such as medical support in life threatening diseases to be authorized by an order by the Central Government
Irregular Payment/ Revival of account: : By payment of penalty of Rs.50 per year alongwith the minimum specified amount per year
Mode of Deposit
Cash/Cheque/ Demand Draft/ Transfer/ online transfers through internet Banking . ECS also available.
Withdrawal
100% withdrawal of deposit amount is only possible once the girl child attains the age of 21. Partial withdrawal is permissible for up to 50% of the deposit amount after the girl child has attained the age of 18 year. This partial withdrawal is allowed only if the money is required for tending to some serious medical illness or on account of higher education or marriage expense of the girl child. Withdrawal of deposit amount is allowed only if the account has been active for at least 14 years.
Sukanya Samriddhi Account can be closed only when the girl child attains 21 years of age. If the account is not closed and the money is not withdrawn even after the child turns 21 then the account continues to earn interest.

- Birth Certificate of girl child (Account Beneficiary)
- Identity Proof of depositor (Parent or legal guardian) PAN card, Ration card, Driving License, Passport
- Address Proof of depositor (Parent or legal guardian) Passport, Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Telephone Bill, Driving License
